Hydration That Belongs With Meals
Water is part of a meal pattern, not a personality. A glass with breakfast, a bottle during the work block, and a drink with training cover more ground than a giant jug chugged at night. Pale urine and a calm headache pattern tell you more than a trendy total in liters.
Sweet drinks can crowd out meals. If a flavored coffee or juice is breakfast, hunger returns angry. Keep sweet drinks beside food, or treat them as dessert. Sparkling water, tea, and citrus in a bottle are easy ways to make plain water less boring.
Long, sweaty sessions need more than water once they stretch past an hour or happen in heavy heat. A little sodium from food or a simple drink prevents the dizzy finish some people blame on “not being fit.” You do not need a complicated formula to start. Salty food plus fluids is the old, reliable version.
Cold hunger is sometimes thirst, and sometimes it is not. If you drink a glass and still want lunch, eat lunch. Using water to postpone every meal teaches the body that signals will be ignored.
Alcohol changes sleep and next-day appetite. You do not have to quit to be healthy, but count it as part of the evening, not as a free pass outside the plate. Eat before you drink, alternate with water, and expect breakfast to matter more the next morning.
Thirst and hunger share a neighborhood. Learn which door you knocked on.

The reminder that starch belongs on the plate changed my training week more than a new supplement ever did.

March 2026
I tried the plate idea at lunch and stopped buying a second snack out of panic. Simple, and it stuck.
